The Westlodge Hotel and Spa kindly host Fit 4 Life meetings and we all appreciate this kindness. The Westlodge also offer excellent membership deals to Fit 4 Life/Bantry AC members so please ask at the front desk for details.

Walk to Run Group
If you are ready to try running but you are not sure how to our Walk to Run group is the place for you. And don’t worry; we start with a few minutes walking and a minute or so jogging. 60 walkers are now runners with Fit4Life.
Improve our existing fitness, achieve more distance and/or speed. Learn how to train efficiently and to minimize injury. If you are a social runner or want to take part in races, Fit4Life is the place for you! We follow the Run Faster, Run Less programme and all members are enjoying the challenge and improvement in their running.

What is Fit 4 Life?
The aim is to encourage everyone aged 16 – 100 years old to get out and take some regular exercise. We have people of all fitness levels taking part, from those who want some encouragement to get out and have a walk to experienced runners who use the regular Monday night as an opportunity to train with other runners. The walk to run group have made great progress this season, soon they will be in the running group. There will be a range of groups you can join that cater for all levels of fitness. We start with 3 basic groups and then split these groups into smaller units to ensure similar fitness levels train together.
The 3 groups are:
The Walkers: Suitable for all.
Walk to Run: If you are a regular walker who needs a new challenge this is the group for you.
Runners: From new runners to seasoned ‘Marathoners’ or those who play a sport already and want to add a new element to your regular training we can give you a challenge.
So, if you want to get up off the couch, lose weight, improve your fitness and make new friends try Fit 4 Life.

Mentors – with the success of Fit4Life 2012, we need more mentors to help run and encourage the different groups. Would you like to become a Fit 4 Life Mentor? Fit 4 Life is a community-based initiative run by volunteers and its primary aim is to promote activity and a healthy lifestyle among its members. It is strictly non-competitive, though some groups may want to occasionally organise a competitive event for themselves.
What is involved in Mentoring?
You will be working as part of a team. You need to be available on Monday nights between 7 and 8 PM to help to organise and encourage one of the groups (walkers, walk/joggers or runners – your choice). Expertise or experience in the areas of exercise, diet, nutrition or leadership is desirable but not essential. Enthusiasm is mandatory! Mentors meet regularly to plan the activity programmes for the groups. The plan for each night is worked out in advance by the mentoring team.
