Youth Runners

Bantry AC welcomes children from the age of 8 and up. We train on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 – 7 PM at the GAA Park.

From September until February or March the training is mostly aimed towards cross-country running. Athletes are welcome to just come along for the training but if they wish to take part in races then these start with the West Cork Champs in September which is ideal for newcomers. We then go on to compete in County, Munster and National Championships. This year we had a very successful cross-country season with 4 Bantry Athletic Club Youth Runners representing Cork and Munster in the National Champs. All those who competed finished in the top 20 and went as high as the top 5.

From March on we concentrate on the track and field events so athletes train for sprints, middle distance, hurdles, long jump, ball throw etc.

The West Cork Champs are usually held in CIT in April; this is a very enjoyable day for newcomers especially. We then go on to compete in various other championships and many clubs in the County hold their own sports days which are open to everyone.

All are welcome, for more information about Bantry Athletic Club Youth Runners, please contact Maria on 0879254057
